When it comes to versatile cookware, Dutch ovens are at the top of our list. You can use them for boiling, braising, frying, baking, and everything in between. They can handle blazing temperatures in the oven, high-heat flames on the stovetop, or switch to storage in the fridge, which is why chefs and home cooks use them on the regular.

But like every crucial kitchen item, Dutch ovens require proper TLC to make them last for years. Fortunately, celebrity chef Michael Symon just revealed his secret to a sparkling Dutch oven: Bar Keepers Friend.

To buy: Bar Keepers Friend Liquid Cleanser, $4 at bedbathandbeyond.com

Between filming his popular Food Network show, Symon's Dinners Cooking Out, Symon took to Twitter to answer a fellow user asking for tips on cleaning enamel Dutch ovens. He wrote that Bar Keepers Friend and "a little bit of elbow grease" will have your cookware looking brand new.

Available in both powder and liquid formulas, Bar Keepers Friend removes stubborn stains, rust, and tar from kitchen countertops, oven interiors, grills, and of course, cookware. Use it on aluminum, glass, copper, and stainless steel pots, pans, skillets, and baking dishes. But keep in mind, Bar Keepers Friend is not suitable for all surfaces. It can cause scratches and discoloration on items like cast iron, silverware, and granite countertops. Make sure you consult the label before using it.

Symon isn't the brand's only fan. Bar Keepers Friend is the only product I've found that effectively removes turmeric, tomato sauce, and other stubborn food stains from my sensitive white countertops. I even use it to clean my painted wood cabinets and polish off my stainless steel pots. While I've found the tried and true method of dish soap, warm water, and a good scrub are enough to keep my Dutch ovens looking their best, I'm now intrigued to try chef Symon's hack on my hand-me-down Le Creuset, which has seen better days.

And considering Bar Keepers Friend typically costs less than $5 a bottle, it's an inexpensive investment to keep your pricey Dutch oven in tip-top shape. Grab your own now to clean like a pro.
